More Migration Trends

Posted on Friday, December 09, 2011 at 08:48 am ET

The previous post highlighted the main results from UCSUR's recent report looking at population migration trends impacting the Pittsburgh region. Using the most recent data available, tracking of IRS tax returns shows a 2nd consecutive year of net migration into the Pittsburgh region.

Here are a few additional maps that did not make it into the report itself. Below is a comparison of the pattern of regions in the US that were generating net migration into the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) over the period 2009-2010 and a comparable period 5 years earlier.

Updated Migration Report

Posted on Wednesday, December 07, 2011 at 02:38 pm ET

UCSUR has released an updated report on population migration patterns impacting the Pittsburgh region. The report is based on data compiled from the Internal Revenue Service's county-to-county migration data. The IRS released updated data through 2010 earlier this week.

The report shows that for a 2nd consecutive year there have been more people moving into the Pittsburgh Metropolitan area than moved out. The trend in net migration going back to 1995 is shown in the graph below.

For more information you can access the report directly online from the UCSUR technical publications web page.
