Professor Sochats serves as Director of the GIS and Visual Analytics Program at UCSUR.  He is the 2005 winner of the Central Appalachian GIS Service Award and the 2002 Carnegie Science Center Award.  He also directs the Visual Information Systems Center (VISC) and the Center for National Preparedness at the University of Pittsburgh , where he has a faculty appointment in Industrial Engineering.
