Let's stop senior scams

Center Directors Scott Beach and Richard Schulz have their research on elder abuse highlighted.

"And, according to University of Pittsburgh researchers Scott Beach, Richard Schulz, Nicholas Castle and Jules Rosen, African-American senior citizens are twice as likely to see themselves as victimized or abused, across all demographics.

The Pitt study helped define financial abuse as a much broader problem than someone bilking a retiree out of his or her life savings. Problems at the outset are often more subtle. Exploitation can be as simple as having a check stolen or being intentionally overcharged or being made to sign documents one doesn't understand."
